Loy Krathong Festival In Tumpat Kelantan

The Loy Krathong celebrtaion in Tumpat Kelantan has begun at Wat Pikulthong yesterday 11th November 2008. Today it will be the final day and the opening/closing ceremony will be performed by Datuk Ong Hong Peng the Chief Secretary to theMinsitry of Tourism.
It will be the climax tonight where a float procession will begin from the temple to the Tumpat River 2 kilometers away where the lantern float will be floated away.
Those intending to attend, please expect a massive crowd and parking will be a problem. The rain may add some misery too. This event is considered as a tourism event and it is usually covered by the mainstream media. TV3 usually covers this event.
If you want to know more about Loy Krathong read them here.
More report to follow soon.

Sound like festival from Thailand.
Saya penah dengar lagu 'Loy krathong'
Teringat pulak masa melancong di Bangkok dan Hadyai 15 tahun lepas.

Hi Zawi, I used to travel to Kelantan every month, sometimes twice and somehow I had always missed this Temple festivity.
But have visited the Temple few times.
Hope one day to see it....with you.
You keep well Zawi and have a great week, Lee.

Sdra Zawi,

You know what? I'm now in my hotel room in Bangkok overlooking the Chao Praya witnessing the "real" Loy Krathong festivities. Wanted to have a closer look but there are too many people. Right now they just started lighting the fireworks.

Never realised that my meeting in Bangkok coincides with the festival. Only knew about it upon my arrival yesterday.

Uncleawang,
Yes it is a Thai Buddhist festival but since Tumpat is at the Thai border, the many Kelantanese of Thai origin celebrate it just as much.

PP,
Seronok PP menari Loy Krathong. Kalau kepala pening-pening sikit lagi menjadi dia.
Di Rose Garden Bangkok selalu ada tarian Loy Krathong diakhir pertunjukan dan penonton di galakkan menari bersama.

Lee,
The 11 or 12 of November or there about is the date for the celebration of this festival. Please come around those dates should you want to see its performance.
We will go there together and let us see if you can apply some of the tango or cha cha steps when dancing to the tune of the Loy Krathong songs. Before the floating away of the floats there were lots of merriment with cultural performance by the Thai community. Last night was great as they allowed Mak Yong to be performed (even thought it was a short improvised on)by the Malay community. They performed the menora dance too. I have not seen the makyong and menora performance for the past 40 years.

hussin,
If I were you I would have braved the crowd and join them for the celebration. It was a chance of a life time to be able to be there when the clebration is on. Would be nice if you could blog about it.
There is not much fireworks here but still lots of merriment. As expected, light drizzle at the time of the procession did kill the mood abit. I had to rush back to my car before the big group of those in the procession arrive.

Mrs. Lim,
It was a fluke shot. My main flash was not working aand the built in camera flash did it. I am glad you like it.

A lot of good and spectacular shots come by way of fluke, after hours and hours of laborious work.

Yes it may have been a fluke shot, but it came after you work very hard at trying to get one.

Just like the cliché: The harder you work, the luckier you become.
