Another Wedding Soon - Part 1

Hari Raya is coming soon. As if to commemorate this auspicious occassion, my son's wedding will be held on the 3rd day of Idilfitri which is the 15th of Oct. which is just a day after his dad's 57th birthday (wink, wink).

The wedding will be held at the brides place just across the town of Pasir Mas. A small reception will be held at my own place the next day and a small feast for the family, neighbours and close friends will be held as 'menerima menantu' (ushering the daugther inlaw). So you can feel the ever increasing tempo of life for both of us till the day of the wedding is done. I am not worried since my wife is very meticulous with everything she does. Immediately after the wedding date is confirmed, she started the preparations. Of utmost importance is the caterer. We have our own favourite caterer who has been doing it for us for several occassion. Their food is good and the price is affordable. Fortunately this caterer was available on that date because he has accepted the bookings for 4 weddings already. Five bookings is all he could handle on any single day. Phew...lucky thing.
Most of the other necessary things for the occassion like the invitation, the 'hantaran' and most important of all the necessary documentations before the wedding is solemnised by the 'naib kadi' on the day before the actual celebration.

Almost everybody in Kelantan choose the dates of 15th, 16th. and 17th Oct to hold a wedding reception. Do you wonder why people in Kelantan prefer to choose a date so close to Idilfitri celebration? The answer is obvious. Many family members will be returning in droves to Kelantan from all over Malaysia for the Hari Raya. So what better days to do a wedding when all close relatives are back home. This will be very convenient. You can expect weddings to be held everywhere in Kelantan. If you travel on those few days after Idilfitri you will not miss seeing a wedding in all the towns and villages. Maybe a few maybe held in a single place simulatneously. The 'Naib Kadi' who will solemnise the wedding will have a busy week come Idilfitri.

Azuan is 27 last June. His marriage will be the fourth and the last marriage among the children. He is my third child. The youngest (Azini) was married in early 2006 and now has a 53 days child Nur Aqilah Balqiss. It is normal for the girl to marry at a younger age compared to boys. Thats how Azuan even being the elder brother is yet to be married.

As an illustration here are some pictures of my youngest daughter's (Azini) wedding to Lokman.

Yoohoo! Guess who decided to pen a note? Tee hee...

Yipeeee CM penned a note. An excited old man after being visited by a friend from cyberworld.
Thank you for cumming.

Hi Zawi

Congratulations! I am already imagining the excitement a wedding brings.

Most of my cousins and friends are married. So my days of attending a string of weddings are over. Now I wait for their children to grow up and then I can start attending weddings again. :)

Lovely photos. Thanks for sharing them with us.

CM,
I am a graduate of IRC world before joining the blogsphere. How I wish I could lay bare all the exloits of the IRC world for all to share. Since some of them were too gory, it will have to remain as a personal matter unless it is written under anonymous author.

Thank you. This will be the last wedding in the immediate family. Should any one of them choose to have seconds or thirds later it wont count as personally I wont encourage it unless they are seperated by death. Marriage should last your lifetime.
The excitement is building up.

Salam (I guess it's only proper if I call you pak zawi.. as a sign of respect),

Congratulations! I'm sure it's going to be a merry occassion.

By the way, I am half-Kelantanese and I know how 'meriah' weddings can be over there. My mum just organized one for my sister last June and oh my.. what a tiring day.

Pak Zawi said...

nana,
Call me by whatever name as you long as you feel comfortable. I have no problem with such matters.
Which half of you is Kelantanese? The top or the bottom? (Take that as a joke ok?) Whichever it is really doesn't matter.
Yes kenduri kahwin is really merry making especially if you have a big extended family. This is one occassion when all the relatives will gather. Otherwise we rarely meet up. The only other occassion we do meet up is the death of a close relative, but thats a sad occassion.
Of course it will be tiring. As the host i will have to greet every guests and keep smiling the whole day.
Thank you for coming.

pak zawi young man
how many people are coming for the wedding? don't mind my ignorance as i have not been to a malay wedding b4, does it include both the girl and the boy's side? and who pays for the wedding? is it common for people to give "angpohs" to help pay for the wedding feast?

Anonymous said...

how come your day stamp is behind 1 day?

Anonymous said...

pak zawi,
I think I may have an idea.. Heh heh... OH boy.. those were the days!

Pak Zawi said...

mm,
I am preparing for about 500 guests. Food will be provided by a caterer ala buffet.
Depending on the occassion some will accept and accept monetary gift. Mine will be 'Kenduri Kesyukuran' meaning n money will be accpted but gift in kind will be OK.
Maybe wrong date on my pc or wrong identification of date in relation to GMT.
If u can be around in Kelantan all of u r invited.

Anonymous said...

that sounds like a big wedding or is it normal to have that many?
thanks for the invite, wish i could be there, will be a first....

trueblue said...

Good luck in the preparation. I'm sure it'll turn out great!!

So I guess your birthday present is the new menantulah. Hehehe

Pak Zawi said...

CM,
Were u an IRC user too? Yes those were the days.

Pak Zawi said...

trueblue,
Thanks for the wishes. So far so good. I never thought that could be the best present for my birthday la. Thanks for the idea. I will tell my son that I regard that as his gift for me. Hahahaha.

Pak Zawi said...

mm,
Its not really a big wedding by any standard. When my wife's uncle had the marriage celebration for his sons, the invitation was for 3,000 people. Notable people who came were Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, Datok Paduka Ibrahim Ali and Datuk Husam Musa as the uncle is close to the politicians.
Try to be here if u can. Anyway where are u located?

Fye_D.Flowright said...

Thanks for dropping bye. I am the one wearing the songkok, on the dais with the bride.

pak zawi,
Can't wait to read them!

I think I'm just one of those people who can't blog. Too much clutter ( Hmm.. does that sound familiar? ) in my life. Would probably drive my readers nuts!

Pak Zawi said...

mm,
Just back from terawih prayers. The air ticket maybe beyond me a retire with a small government pension but a food parcel for Raya is possible. Email me your address and let see what I an send you.

Pak Zawi said...

Caramel,
It will be great if you have your own blog. I will be a permanent resident there. Better clutter up your blog than clutter up TZA's blog. Give it a try and let see how it goes. All we need is a minimum of jm,mm,cm and mz to hit centuries comments per posting.
As per the other secret blog, send me ur email address to get the url. Readership will be restricted to a select few only. and will be on first come firt served basis.
How about it?

Anonymous said...

no need lah, just joking only.
anyway aust have a strict food regulation so no dairy, fruits, meat and the list goes on.. can bring in only dried food , canned food, commercially packed food.
thanks for the thought, i am humbled, you are such a gentleman....

Pak Zawi said...

mm,
Sorry couldnt reply to u in TZA's blog. Too many comments to read thru to get to the last comments. Almost 50.
Me a gentleman :) A gentleman par excellence. Thank you very much mm. Thats the highest compliment i have ever had.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the encouragement pak zawi :) One day when I have the quiet of a calm mind and am able to rifle through the peaks and troughs of my life to this point, my name on tz's blog will glow red like yours and you will see life through caramel coloured lenses :)

In the meantime.. I'll send you my email :)

Pak Zawi said...

CM,
Why delay when we can chat in ur own blog to our hearts content without worrying baout offending anybody. Take my word, the earlier it is the better. Yes send ur email to my gmail. Anyway the first posting is just an intro and not really brimming with fire.

Anonymous said...

just checking in to say hello, didn't feel like doing that at TZ's.
i do wonder how he feels about us clogging up his site as he left the post as it is without comments.
also CM is right let other people have a chance to comment lah. we were dominating it and it's hard for others to get an entry in without being in the chat...
the famous last words eh....

Pak Zawi said...

hello,
I promised him earlier that I wont be cluttering it up anymore
I told CM to have her blog and we can chat to our hearts content among invited friends only.

Pak Zawi said...

nana,
You tagged me? May take time to do it cos I am in the midst od writing a new posting. I hope you can wait OK?

Pak Zawi said...

mm,
Be my guest. I have no problem. Never had much comments in my blog. Let see if you can help me with a 100 or even 200?

Pak Zawi said...

mm,
How do u know I have CM's email address? Well just say that I have it, u still have to get permission from CM. Pssst I can pass it on to u if u bribe me with something. U know this is Malaysia and we are way down 44 on a list of 180 countries with high corruption index and the leaders says it is good to be on 44. So I guess corruption is OK in this country. Afterall most people are corrupted to the core in Malaysia.

Hello everyone! Sorry was at Devi's having teh tarik. TZ was right. It's pretty good!

Anyways, pak zawi you can forward my email to mm :) Would love to catch up with everyone even if it's not on TZ's blog.

I will do the needful. Meantime I will need mm's email address unless u want me to post ur email in the comment column for all and sundry to see which of course you could have done it yourself hehehehehe. mm's email me ur email address. Use my gmail add cos it's already displayed at the click of my nick.

Pak Zawi said...

mm,
I am really sorry for JM. He is going to b jobless soon. Must be hard to face life without the usual income you are used to have. Luckily he has only himself to feed. If he has a family, how will tey survive?

Anonymous said...

the fact that he's furthering his studies tells me that he is doing something to enhance his career. so i guess the young man has ambitions and drive...

Anonymous said...

and oh.. his family could be loaded.. coming from a timber rich state..

Pak Zawi said...

mm,
Maybe loaded. You can never tell. I will ask him later how he is going to cope up. I think we are close enough to show that we care since he is a friend now.

Anonymous said...

yeah pak zawi. Been wondering the same but since he has the option to quit and go back to school, he should be doing better than fine. Don't forget this is one kid who went to Australia for 6 years to study. Either way, good luck jm! Hope you won't lose your net access. Won't be the same without our resident loony tunes! Heh heh...

Pak Zawi said...

CM,

Pak Cik Zawi,

Tak nak jemput I ke? I keempunan nak makan nasi minyak le.

Anyway congrats on becoming a FIL once again. You must be relieved that the last one is finally leaving the coop, but am sure its also mixed with a tinge of sadness because its a surefire sign that you're getting old (he he he).

Pak Zawi said...

Lady Patsy,
My Lady, with humility i would like to invite My Lady Patsy to grace the wedding of my second son on the 16th October 2007 at my humble abode in Pasir Mas , Kelantan.

My children have all left home quite sometime ago. Azuan has been working in bank negara KL and thus stay in his own apartmeent in Shah Alam. His older sister and brother are in KL too whereas Azini is living in Labuan since her husband works for Petronas there.
So its not something for them to leave my wife and me alone.

Lady Patsy said...

He he he. Thanks for the invite ... But oh dear I haven't a thing to wear!

I'll wait for JT to come down (hopefully next year) and then we will make a trip to Kelantan and we will both definitely come and visit you.

Anonymous said...

i read those comments ! and guys .. how sweet of you to care .. appreciate it very much .. those support. well i hv answered most of it last nite .. at TZA .. timber rich state ? well not anymore .. most timbers are gone .. and with restrictions from ITTO .. logs are difficult to be brought out .. but it still does from time to time.
i'll be in and out ... here and there .. checking both sites guys .. cheers !

Anonymous said...

psssst .... is ..TZA like piss off ?? or what will he be since we or i should say i clog his site ? hmmm but i dont think so because .. he left quite a number of comments early this morning.. even officially appointing me resident looneytooney ! ... ehhehee

Pak Zawi said...

Lady Patsy,
If you dont have a single thing to wear, just come as you are. Many people will enjoy looking at you that way. Oooops, thats me again, hope coffeerox dont come visiting. Otherwise we both will get another kick in the butt.
I sincerely hope you and j.t will visit Kelantan one day. We will play host to you.

Pak Zawi said...

JM,
Dont be unduly worried about TZA. Infact he seems to like it. Only that he doesnt have the luxury of time like we do. Last night he read thru the comments at 2.30 am after all the meetings. Can you live up to such a life?
He responded to my comment. I am happy to see him take up the idea. To be fair to him we should be able to help him too by giving him feedback and ideas how he can improve Tune M. Any idea however silly it seems can turn out to be a gem. We must respect him too and only clog his site after all else have made their comments.
If we need to clog up a place, use mine. I dont mind really cos after all I dont have many visitors. Feel at home and make yourself at home. Help yourselves to all the goodies in the fridge. Hahahaha.

Anonymous said...

yup pak zawi
agree with what you said .. wont really clog his site until after all comments are in .. but then again i dont think a lot of ppl knows about his site yet as it is relatively new but when ppl know i am sure it will generate more interest and comments and i am certain too with our clogs there it will encourage more comments as people will be curious and want to join in looking at the numbers there.
well that's how i view it too. like the market .. if you see a stall with so many people crowding it the first thought which comes in is .. the product must be nice and curious onlookers will come and perhaps buy too ! ... :)

Anonymous said...

Checked with TZ last night folks. He's ok with the clogging. Said it was fun watching us and made the blog come alive. So clog on! heh heh..

Anonymous said...

uh.. better tell you that I don't know him personally. I just, dengan segala muka tebalnya emailed him and asked outright! Hehe...

Pak Zawi said...

JM,
You are alright I guess. I remember seiing a comment from a new visitor about the blog getting so many comments even being so new. He didnt realise it was just our group that made them all. Since TZ himself said OK its OK la. No worry.
Your theory about a crowded place attracting more curious people is correct.

Pak Zawi said...

CM,
Lets clog it even more this time. What say if we do 500?

Anonymous said...

500 it is! Gotta save one of the 00 numbers for fye_d. I kinda crashed her party earlier. Feeling bad! Me and my timing!

Pak Zawi said...

cm,
Well you didnt know of the plan. Dont blame yourself for it. It justt happened. She should have watched it and came in at that time. The same thing happened to mm when I was holding it for the 100th comment for her to take. Small matter anyway. If she is a grown up she wont fret about it.

Hi Zawi

I could not help notice that Pat is already making plans for me to visit Kelantan.

I would really love it because I want to revisit the places where I once stayed and played in. It will be a nostalgic visit and a little sad too since my parents are not alive anymore and every memory I have of Kelantan is of our family and the places we have been to.

Looking forward to it someday.

Pak Zawi said...

j.t.
That is great news. Come back please. But please give justice to your trouble of trvelling such a long distance by allowing yourself sufficient time to see Kelantan again. Though it isn't a big state, sufficient time is needed to savour what the region could offer. The Perhentian Islands though is in the state of Terengganu, is nearer to KB than KT. That jewel of an island will not shine forever so you better enjoy it while it is still in its prime. The rest of the areas of Kelantan is within a days Travel.
Plan for June, July and August as it is away from the monsoon months. Do let me know and I will prepare you an itinerary that may suit your need. I will suggest to you and send some pictures so that you can make a decision on how long you need to do Kelantan. Otherwise just give me an indication of how long you can afford to spend on Kelantan and I will suggest you a suitable itineray. Need to know your taste and prefernces too.
