I Consider It Done

Heliconia Flower

That is how the painting looks as at this time when I am making this post. I consider it done and I have signed it dated August 09. I consider it done and should there be any touch up it will be quite minuscule. That is my first painting.
If you remember when I place it in my previous post, this was how it looked.
It was then still incomplete although the basics were already there but it was not finished.
Now then it is done, it will be ready for collection by Zendra of Kuala Lumpur. To make it easier for her to collect, it will be sent to Shah Alam via my son Azuan who will be returning to Shah Alam on Sunday 23rd of August. So Zendra please contact Azuan at Brusfield Service Apartment Shah Alam to collect the painting. I am really grateful to Zendra for her willingness to own my first painting which really inspire me to go on painting beyond the first one.
The next project will be a landscape as per the picture below. It is a typical Chinese house in Kampong Tepi Sungai not far from my own house. I really love the serenity of the place. Let us hope that I will manage to paint something as close to the one showed in the photograph.

Painting has given me immense pleasure. Hopefully my friend Dato' Jaafar Lamri or Jaflam of Jaff Point will not wait any longer to start painting as Dato' is an avid art collector.

This is the first time anyone's given me a work of art, EVER - ooops I just remember I ought to buy it lah. Insya Allah I'll come by Azuan's place - do email me at kaizendra@gmail.com for contacts OK?

Awie,

Bila pula mu mula melukis niih? No wonder these few days tak ada on line di SKYPE.. rupa-rupanya duk sibuk melukis pula.

A good effort though. I never got the skill to painting... I am more musically inclined.

Keep it up!

Salam, Abang Zawi!

Aah, that's a lovely painting of a heliconia. The contrast of colours is beautiful!

That's a great hobby you've taken up. No more veggie farming? We're only just getting started on veggie farming over here.

Kak Teh,
Bila baca Kak Teh kata cantik hati Pak Zawi terasa besar sekali. Now I guess I can consider myself an artist after having painted a single painting hahahaha. Anyway i am a member of PESENI Kelantan. I just joined it a week or so ago.
Well I can't blame you for not meeting up because I didn't go to KL for the gathering.

Pak Zawi said...

Zendra,
Your support is really important to me. Because of you my wife Fatthiyah is very supportive of my new hobby which she was very skeptical before. Can't blame her because I haven't shown her this part of my talent before. I am sorry you will have to buy it and as I said before I will accept any offer from you. This will be the catalyst to spur me on to produce more. Seeing you so happy makes me as happy.
This is as good as any for the opportunity to start your art collection as you wont be spending a fortune to collect them. Hopefully one day you or your children can sell them at a much higher profit.
I will email you once the painting is on the way to Shah Alam.
Thanks to you, I will definitely keep on painting.

Azmy,
God is very fair. He will not endow everything to one person. God gave you the gift of music and he gave me something else.
I have a few files to share with you so u better be on skype tomorrow morning.

Pak Zawi said...

Syana,
Seronoknya dengar orang suka lukisan Pak Zawi.

Pak Zawi said...

Ahan,
I am not surprised if you are impressed! Even my wife didn't believe in me earlier.

Pak Zawi said...

Ee Lynn,
Salam kembali.
I don't know about technicalities but i just paint as my heart desires it with a little bit of help from my mentor Chegu Deen.
Stopped vegie farming when the landowner came to tell that he is building up the houses on the plot of land. Anyway till today nothing has been done yet. Maybe I will start on hydroponics as I can plant them withing my house compund.

Pak Zawi said...

Kama,
I will be working very hard to produce some items to be displayed at the exhibition provided they are not sold out before the the event. As it is i have a booking for my next project which is of a landscape. I need the money to buy art materials hehehehe.
Told Deen to read your comment. I think he knows it now.

Zendra-Maria said...

Pak Zawi, I'm so glad that I'm instrumental to Fatthiyah's conversion to your latest hobby hahaha semoga semakin bahagialah masjid Pak Zawi, Ameen.

Off course there will be ang-pow raya with small change from one pensioner to another Insya Allah. Come to think of it, I better try to become famous / infamous at something. With the names Zendra and Pak Zawi on one painting, Kama might just make me an early offer kakakakah

Pak Zawi said...

Zendra,
The business acumen in you is already working very well. Best of luck to you hehehehe.

jaflam said...

Congrats Pak Zawi on your first finished painting & sold too. I will join you very soon to kick start my water color painting again. In fact I have bought enough materials to paint for six months hehee. Although my first guru Hj. Mansor Ghazali has passed away recently but his accomplished student Faizal is every ready to teach me. My youngest daughter is taking his class every Sunday.

You definitely inspire me to pursue my love in painting. Look forward to see your second painting.

Pak Zawi said...

D. Jaff,
I am sure glad you are now inspired to start painting right away. Start with a simple one that you can finish easily. Though I have only done water colors during my school days, I have chosen oil painting because I can always take a long break before continuing and should I make a mistake I can always correct them.
Let us enjoy painting as it is really a very absorbing hobby.

salam dr Adi.

Pak Zawi said...

Adi,
"PERGGGGHHHHH" awak tu memberikan suntikan semangat yang begitu kuat untuk saya menyiapkan Rumah Kayu Tradisional Cina yang ambo telah mulakan beberapa hari lepas. Yang ni satu memang mencabar jika dibandingkan dengan projek pertama. Mungkin kalau saya gunakan water color adalah lebih mudah.
Jom la kita melukis dan join Peseni Kelantan.

Temuk said...

Salam Pak Zawi
Wow! That was your first attempt?Unbelievable! Molek sungguh painting tu. Bolehlah Pak Zawi dgn Deen sama2 hebatkan PESENI. Dan sambil terus berkarya utk memenuhi citarasa para collectors.

Tommy Yewfigure said...

Now, now Pak Zawi, settle down please & don’t get too carried away! U r only as famous as your last masterpiece.

Remember always remain grounded & be humble at all times. For full achievement or to achieve total fulfilment; think of yourself as always be number 3 because as number 1, u’ll become complacent & lose that inspiration to improve & nobody remembers number 2 anyway.

Like me, I’d always considered myself to be third best in all my endeavours, because the best hasn’t been born yet & second best had already died……muahaha….That’s my Confucius upbringing lessons. (This explained why I’m so confused every time).

Sorry just pulling your leg, well done, u did well on your first attempt. Lucky Zendra!

Salam,
Tommy.

Pak Zawi said...

Temuk,
Terima kasihhh.

Pak Zawi said...

Tommy Yew,
I am nowhere near the top. Near the bottom is more like it hehehe. So stop being confused OK?
Lucky Zendra? I am as lucky cos Zendra gave me the shot in the arm. Now I am more determined to produce another one with the hope of being a second time lucky. Who knows Oldstock of Johor may want to buy the next one as he was beaten to it by Zendra on the first one. Zendra decided to buy it even before it was completed and was still in the raw form. Even I wasn't sure of how it would turn out hahahaha. Yes I think she is lucky too.

Zendra-Maria said...

Pak Zawi and Tommy, I don't know what mantra Pak Zawi used but when I saw the unfinished painting it seemed to call out "going cheap, going cheap, please own me, take care of me"..... hahaha. In fact I never was any good at art in school, it was the only subject I ever failed up to Form 3 to tell the truth. So why did Pak Zawi's painting talk to me? Yewfigure that out Tommy :}

Elisabeth's bright side said...

Your painting is great. The colours, the composition, and the simplicity make me like it very much.

Pak Zawi said...

Zebdra,
It must be fated that the painting will be owned by you. You seemed to be attracted to it even when it was yet to be completed. Did I do any mantra? if I can do that then i will be rich as everyone of my future paintings will find an owner hahahaha.
It is good that you cannot paint otherwise you will be painting your own :).

Pak Zawi said...

Elizabeth,
I will be doing a few other paintings based on other varieties of heliconia. One of them will be for my own wife who now believes in my ability to paint (at least of heliconias hehehehe). If they turn out to be nice, I will offer one for you to buy at an affordable price. Thanks for the visit and comment.

Hi Zawi, go for it. That house does look good to paint too.
I used to do paintings back in the 60's, 70's.
Infact had 5 exhibited at Dewan Tunku Abdul Rahman in Ampang road in 1960's.
Have sold a few in England, three to Australia, a couple to US....but kept a few to hang in my house.

But today prefer to take portrait pics of matured women, mostly friends...and making them look beautiful thru my lens.
My 12 year old Nikon F601 and back up camera, a Yashica Electro 35.

And my reward? When they exclaim, "is that really me"? Ha ha.
Have a nice day, Lee.

Lee said...

Zawi, minta ma'af, lupa comment your latest painting....it is beautiful. Love your choice of colours...and interesting with the daun and bunga.
Boleh gantung in your living room, ha ha. Lee.

Pak Zawi said...

Lee,
Wow! You were an artist too? Now your paintings are all over the world! Let us continue painting.
Photography can complement our painting. We can do them together.
Unfortunately I cannot 'gantung' this painting on the wall of my house as I have offered to sell it to Zendra. I need to make a sale to prove to my other half that this is a hobby that pays.

Tommy Yewfigure said...

Hey Pak Zawi, let me tell u hor; Zendy is someone ‘special’ having lived thru’ the psychedelic rock genre of the 70’s England. It’s not your painting calling her, it’s actually the voice in her head {that of Mother Mary’s word of wisdom or was it Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds}.

That’s why u & I can only see your painting as a heliconia flower art, she saw a helicopter dangling in it & much2 more…hahaha.

Tommy,

P/S – Zendy, admit it lah, the painting will worth a fair bob in a few years time! Don’t forget Pak Zawi’s royalty then when u sell it, ok?

Anonymous said...

assalamualaikum pak zawi,
congrats on completing your painting,
envy you lah, so talented, and so much time in hand

aminahsj

Pak Zawi said...

Tommy Yew,
I lived through that Beatles age too :). If what you say is true, then I will stand to benefit too by selling it to Zendy. Let's hope that she wont sell it cheap hehehehe.

Aminahsj,
Thank you. As a retiree with no kids around the house, I definitely have lots of time on my hands.

Zendra-Maria said...

Minta laluan Pak Zawi (customer's prerogative hehe)

Tommy, you are correct. How come you know I love dangles ha? And rotors too, I might add ;) Don't make me start lah.

Pak Zawi, if you can paint flowers that look like helicopter rotors, you may have yourself a ready buyer again!

Pak Zawi said...

Zendra,
As if by ESP, I am already working on a painting of flowers. Now that you mention it, I will make the petals look like rotor blades hahahaha. What a way to make some monies.

Mekyam,
You better believe it :). Showed you step by step how I did it.
If you are interested, I am willing to paint one for you. Just give me a theme other than portrait or abstract and it will be ready by the next time you come back to Malaysia.

Zack said...

Pak Zawi,

Nice painting. Should there be no one else asking, I wish to be the owner of your soon to paint rumah tepi sungai. Or, how is it going to be now, Dutch?

Sorry, Z1 won't be coming to KB anyway.

Call U later.

Zuera said...

Pak Zawi said...

Zack,
I am still working on The House. So far there is no firm request for it yet. I guess I can reserve it for u.
Chatted with Big Z at Zohor today but it was too close to Zohor prayers that I wasn't able to find out the reason. Would love to hear it from you or Chegu. Well whatever the reason, Z1 show must go on and it will be to Kelantan's loss especially me who may not be able to see if it is held anywhere outside Kelantan. I will just keep away from Kelantan Muay Thai scene, there is nothing there for me.

Pak Zawi said...

Azura,
I will paint one or too for you.

insyaAllah, i'll stand in line with the pix i'd like painted!

Pak Zawi said...

Mekyam,
Thank you for the wishes. The offer stands. Since the chance of your returning home maybe quite sometimes, I definitely think it can be done. Yes, there is quite a queue now especially from among the family who has just found out my new found talent hahahaha.
Any inkling of when you will reach Malaysian shore again?

Unknown said...

haha.. go ahead Pak Zawi, paint the flowers. No permission required but I would like to see how it looks like later.

Pak Zawi said...

Thank you. No problem to let you see and who knows you may like the painting better, you may want to buy it hahahaha.

But don't give up writing as I am sure your stories also have a market.

You must be a painter too :). If u want to refresh your painting skill, I know who to take u to, cos it definitely won't be me. My former art teacher is currently residing in Majidee, JB. Maybe she and her artist husband will be able to help you rekindle your interest in painting again.

Pak Zawi,

Tahniah. Saya sendiri tak berbakat melukis, bila melukis cempedak menjadi nangka. Saya sungguh kagum dengan kebolehan Pak. Syabasy!

Pak Zawi said...

Awang Goneng,
Sempat bergambar bersama Kakak setelah Kakak autograph sekeping flier The King and I untuk saya.
Selamat berpuasa.

Awang Goneng said...

Pak Zawi,

Rasanya dah bertahun saya tak mengunjungi blog Pak Zawi. Bila saya datang balik (kelmarin) Pak Zawi tunjukkan satu bakat baru!

Tolong sampaikan salaam.

Pak Zawi said...

Awang Goneng,
The next time you come back to Malaysia, bring home a painting to London since there is space for it in your home. Wait till I make the post about my latest paintings. Sorry you can't choose from what will be posted as they are already taken up. New one will be created for you, after I am done doing one for Mek Yam in new York and U Lee in Toronto.
Selamat berpuasa.
