KELANTAN GATEWAY

The Launching Of Kelantan Gateway

Kelantan Gateway was launched by YB Dato' Hj. Takiyuddin Bin Hj. Hassan, Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Kerajaan Tempatan, Pelancongan dan Kebudayaan on Saturday 20st June 2009 at 12 noon. The launch was done at Hover Restoren which happened to be the restaurant that Pak Zawi was assigned by Deputy Editor of the Magazine to write about. The short article by Pak Zawi appeared on pages 31 to 33.

So beside the State Government's other magazine Qiadah, Pak Zawi is also contributing to Kelantan Gateway. Hopefully Pak Zawi's children and their children will be proud of Pak Zawi. Hey don't forget Pak Zawi also contributes to Boxxtomoi Magazine, which is Malaysia's first magazine devoted to Tomoi!
This is Restoren Hover located close to Muhibah Cake House in Kota Bharu.
Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz of Sheikh Kickdefella fame is seen in action in the middle of the road. Syed Azidi is the Creative Director and Senior Photographer of the Magazine. Pak Zawi took his own photographs but was not credited for it. That reminds Pak Zawi to give Bariah Ishak the Deputy Editor a small tounge lashing the next time Pak Zawi meets her.
YB Takiyuddin is seen busy welcoming the guests.
The co owner of Restaurant Hover is busy on the phone. She and her husband helped by their son operated the restaurant and rented out a part of the restaurant to Haji Hussin and Haji Hassan to operate the nasi Minangkabau Hover. Another important tenant of Hover Restaurant is the nasi berlauk Pak Din which sells nasi berlauk from 7.00 AM till 11.00. Due to space constraint, they were edited out from the story.
The shooters shooting each other.
Kelantan Gateway is now officially launched by YB Takiyuddin. En. Azli of Majalah Libur was also present.
Handing out the magazine to guests in the reataurant.
Pak Zawi was there with his wife. Thanks to Kerajaan Negeri Kelantan, we had a sumptous lunch. All walk in customers had a free lunch too.
YB. Takiyudding greeting the three foreign guests.
Karangkraft Eastcoast region head presenting the Libur Placque to Haji Hussin of Nasi Minangkabau Hover.
Ladies in black. They might be arrested for being so dressed if they were in Perak. lucky thing they were in Kota Bharu kelantan.
A copy of the magazine being given away to this young singer. Can anybody identify him?
I will make a post on Restaurant Hover so that readers can read in full the story about it. there is more to it than what was portrayed in the magazine as the space constrain wouldn't allow the full text to be printed, nor the many pictures that Pak Zawi took over two days at the restaurant.

Pak Zawi,
I am interested in the name of the Restaurant. Hover? Is that where the socialites of Kelantan go to hang around? I have not been to Kota Baru for years and years, and one of my earliest memories is of seeing a peacock (merök) in a place called Tikat when I was a teeny-weeny kid. Kelantan reminds me of so many things, and you people also seem to derive a lot of fun from politics. I remember the bridge (Yahya Putra?) that the PAS govt threatened to build across the river. An UMNO stalwart then threatened to run naked across it if it did become a fact. (This was like two adults playing nèh-nèh-nèh-nèh-nèh-nè...). The bridge got built, and the UMNO man did drop his semutar and sarong one fine Kelantan morning just after suboh, on the new bridge. Mekyam was on her way to school then, satchel in hand. The sight was just too much for her that she left KB by the first train and didn't get off until she reached New York. And she's never looked back and has been there ever since, having sworn never again to traverse a bridge so early in the morning. Tell me Pak Zawi, is this a true story or just another urban legend?

Atok,
I will check on them. A promise is a promise. He will have to keep it up. I will make sure his other half will send you the copy if they still have them otherwise they will have to send you Kelantan Gateway which I know are still plentiful. Kelantan Gateway has more pictures that will surely make you yearn to come back sooner than the previous 3 years hehehehe.

Awang Goneng,
The restaurant's name is Hover but the Kelantanese pronounce it as Hoover. It is not the place to socialise but just a place for a good makan since they usually have about 17 dishes on offer and the seats are always full at lunch hour. The safest day to go is a Saturday as the offices around the area are closed.
Politics is definitely fun in kelantan. kelantan will be the dullest place on earth sans politics. Afterall what else is there to enjoy? We dont have Makyong or Menora. Even Manohara has ran back to Indonesia.
As to the bridge run, you may have to ask Mekyam to confirm as I was from the ulu and never had the chance to see the bridge until I finished my form 5 in 1968. In 1969 I had to attend the 6th Form class at Sultan Ismail College for 3 months and had to cross the bridge to get to Kota Bharu from Pasir Mas, otherwise I wouldn't even know how it looks.
The story of Mekyam taking the train to New York sounds like Lebong as the Terengganuans used to call it. If other readers don't get what I mean please check this blog http://www.kecek-kecek.blogspot.com/ How To...Lebong hehehehehe.

hahaha! memang ag lebong, pok wi. :D

but such a flashing encounter would add an awesome bravura to a mekyam myth, i wish it really did happen.

pity i never lived in kelantan at all, otherwise i would so let the story fly. ;D

congratters on 'kelantan gateway'! i'm sure yr children are very proud of you.

Mekyam,
Given the chance AG will be the best Lebong master anywhere. He will unflinchingly tell you a high story and nobody will tell that he is doing it. It would have been believable if you had hitched a ride on Dato' Azhar Mansor's Jalur Gemilang when he circumnavigated the world.
You never lived in Kelantan and by the way you chat you seemed (not sound) to be a Kelantanese through and through. I am truly proud of you. For that I will award you with a kain batik lepas should I one day reach New York. It won't be used as a 'semutar' but as a 'kain kelubung'.

Congratulations on having your articles published yet again, Abang Zawi! We are all very proud of you. Happy Father's Day. Ha ha ha about Restoran Hoover. So everyone who enters the restaurant must be a fan of vacuum cleaners!

mekyam said...

pokwi, i would be sooo honoured to show u nyc, proudly wearing your gift of the semutar as a 'kain kelubung'. beats the pashmina, if u ask me, because u can wear it on warm days too. go kelatae!

be prepared though to find nuyork not having any of the kind of places that are "catered" for tourist eyes. the city is very much wysiwyg. but visitors seem to love this aspect of gotham.

pokwi, i'm no end chuffed that my kelantese seemed authentic enough to a true blue anok kelatae such as your goodself. truth be told, my setitik daroh kelatae is from my mek's side. even then, the late only used it when speaking with her worith2 beloh alik kelatae jo. which was not often since we never lived there. i always seem to have a bit of an ear for picking up different patterns of speech if i hear it often enough.

The KL Traveller,
Be my guest. I will be very happy with it. Should you want a copy og the mag just send me by sms your mailing address.

Pak Zawi said...

Ee Lyn,
Thanks for the fathers day greetings.
Its Hover not Hoover hehehehe.

Pak Zawi said...

Mekyam,
The award of kain batik lepas can be made earlier. Just give me your mailing address and I will get my son to post it in Nuyork the next time he flies there. Nuyork is one of the cities that he overnights for a couple of days before the onward flight home. Just email me your mailing address to mohdzawi@gmail.com.
It doesn't matter if NY doesn't have many touristic places to see as visiting a city can be likened to collecting a trophy. Having ourselves photographed there will be good enough. What more if the backdrop is the Statue of Liberty or ground zero.

Received the poslaju containing the first issue of Kelantan Gateway. It's better than LIBUR. Congratulation.

Pak Zawi said...

GUiKP,
I contributed only one article which was edited beyond recognition. Any credit should go to the team of the editorial board.
Good to hear that you like it Wan.

Wan Nordin Wan Hussin said...

KG is loaded with visual vignettes. I suppose, the Editorial Board subscribe to a picture is worth a 1,000 words. All the same, the inaugural issue showcases Kelantan Darul Naim as The Beautiful Abode. I trust it will get better and better.

Personally, I would like to see more of Kelantan's best kept secret (of which Villa Danialla in Tok Bali is one) and more write up on local history and personalities too, like the MPKB when Burgess was there; the SIC and Izanee Marican, etc.

Once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
