This Is A Real Shocker!

I can't believe my eyes when I opened my email recently. He had not been to my site for sometimes and when he came, he was surprised that I have turned into a painter of sort. Immediately he ordered 10 (ten) pieces. That is right TEN PIECES of whatever that I have and those that I have yet to paint.
Wow! I have promised other people too and with his ten pieces, I will have a lot more to work on. There is also this art exhibition being organized by Puteri Kamaliah at Balai Berita in KL this coming November specially for members of PESENI Kelantan that I wanted very much to put a piece or two to show to the world.
The order is from a close friend and I know all these while he had been buying and dealing in art pieces but they are art pieces from established painters and command prices in hundreds of US dollars! After a few emails to and fro, I have agreed to do them for him including those that he requested: paintings of cockerels. Now that is a real challenge to paint a cockerel.
He said he will buy anything other than portraits. Fair enough since I am not a portrait artist and that is proven when a portrait of my grand daughter Balkis is yet to be considered done despite her mum's insistence that I get it done before she comes back for the next end of year break. She and family lives in Labuan. That's still along way to go.
This buyer provoked me into naming my price and cautioned me not to be shy of naming my price. Well I am not an established artist and my paintings will always be affordable to anybody who loves my painting. Just give me an offer and I will not disappoint you. Just keep my work hung on your wall and Pak Zawi will be very happy.
On top of that he wanted the paintings to be framed in good frames. That will add at least another RM100 to the price. One consolation though, he will allow me to use some of the paintings to be displayed at the show with his name as the buyer. So I will have to put a tag Sold to Mr. ....... ..... and of course no price will be displayed. The price of Pak Zawi's painting will always remain confidential between the buyer and the seller unless it is auctioned off publicly, one day maybe.

Meanwhile the name of the new buyer will remain unknown until the day of the art exhibition. If you are keen to know who bought them, please attend the show at Balai Berita KL at a date that will be announced soon by Puteri Kamaliah.
To those who have requested for my painting, don't worry all promises by Pak Zawi will be honoured. Just give me a bit of time. I will get it done.
To commemorate Merdeka Day Pak Zawi finished painting a pink water lily.

Pink Water Lily

Another painting in the works is that of a basket of mangosteen.
Manggis, my current project.

Should you want me to paint one for you, just email me at mohdzawi@gmail.com and tell me what kind of subject that you want me to paint. If i can do it I will do it but of course you will have to wait for your turn as the list is growing every day. Please pray that I will remain healthy as long as possible so that I can fulfill all of your requests before I lose control of my hands due to whatever ereason. As to the price, just make me any offer and I will accept.

Congrats Pak Zawi! I am so happy for you and your Kelantanese artists.

Our Pahang and Trengganu artists have just secured a very good venue too to put up their amazing and very beautiful artworks!

Lets help them then..this very talented group may achieve international recognition very soon!

Pak Z,

Make sure you let us know the exact date of the exhibition....looking forward to see it....i am so happy for u...

jaflam said...

Wow Pak Zawi it looks like your list is getting longer and soon it will be beyond my reach.... to get your piece early. Of course I would luv to have your piece among my collections because to me the relationship with the painter is a must before I buy the piece. Art is kind of unique and there is no right or wrong in painting the way you prefers ... its the spirit and story behind the painting that make it a master piece to the painter and collectors.

Before I lose out further in your list I better put my request here. Pls paint for me a picture of the beautiful colorful kelantanese fishing boats on the beach as my personal collection of your work.

Congrats on your fantastic progress and order. Keep up the good strokes.

mamasita,
Thank you. Thanks to Puteri Kamaliah for our KL show.
I am so happy you managed to secure a place for your artists too. If we all were to chip in, it will be a success one day. We have to be active so that people will know we are an art's enclave just like Ubud in Bali.

Pak Zawi said...

zaitgha,
I will let you know when I know of the dates. You can count on me for that. Looking forward to see u at the exhibition.

Pak Zawi said...

Dato' Jaff,
I am speechless! Never expect such a request from you. I know you collect the best including some from my former classmate Fauzan Omar who is a well known artist in Malaysia. Please let me believe that this is going to be true. Don't worry I can make yours happen earlier than you expect. Just let me add you to my growing list OK?
Thank you Dato'. You are truly a friend.

The water lily is simply beautiful!

Pak Zawi said...

Patricia,
Thank you. Just an amateurish attempt from a wannabe painter. It really warms my heart to hear you say that.

Kak Teh said...

pak zawi, am so happy for you! soon, we will be seeing a one man exhibition in london, insyaallah. I will alert my friend - raja ahmad aminullah to view your work. he has a gallery somewhere near klcc.

Pak Zawi said...

Kak Teh,
I have yet to display my painting at any exhibition. So holding a solo is simply out of the world. Please don't rush into anything as anything seen online is different from the real thing. Give me time and let me learn up my ropes and perhaps before I leave for the next world I will produce something worthy of being considered a work of art.
Anyway the flattery feels nice hehehe. Wait for your piece after the exhibition OK?

Syaliza Abdul Rahman said...

Salam Pak Zawi :o)

Your paintings are so beautiful! I am not surprised that many are placing orders on your beautiful artwork.

Congratulations! Please announce the date of the exhibition. I would love to go and see.

Selamat Berpuasa :o)

Awww Pak Zawi, I'm also so very happy for you too... I hope you become really famous ... because I own your very first painting! hehe

Syabas Pak Zawi. The mangosteens look scrumptious too.

Pak Zawi,

Rezeki anugerah dari Allah swt boleh datang dari mana-mana dan tanpa diduga. I am happy for you.

As I said earlier, take your time. No hurry from me. Being able to own one of your paintings is itself an honour. Not because you're famous or anything, but because you're a friend I met in blogosphere.

Pak Zawi said...

Syana,
Thank you 3x. I will blog about it once we get the dates from Puteri Kamaliah. We will be very happy to have you at the exhibition.

Pak Zawi said...

Zendra,
You have the foresight. I wanted you to have it anyway since the first one must have opened the door to more people. We Kelantanese call the first sale as 'gori'.
The mangosteen is still undergoing some repairs. I hope it will turn out right after more touches. Waiting for my mentor to comment before calling it done.
Do you want me to repair your heliconia? I think it could do with some touches.

Pak Zawi said...

Oldstock,
Ye segalanya datang dari Dia. Saya amat bersyukur. Saya juga tak mahu jadi popular dan menjual hasil karya saya dengan harga mahal. Biar ramai orang mampu beli. Saya boleh terima apa sahaja yang ditawarkan asalkan cover cost material, tenaga dan delivery.
I feel so honoured to be your friend. dato' Jaflam wants one of mine because of our friendship too. By right he shouldn't be collecting one of mine because his other paintings are from welknown artists.
let us pray that success won't get to my head.

Pak Zawi said...

uncleawang,
Sorry for missing your comment earlier. Yes it is the good month of Ramadhan that is bringing this rezeki.

Pak Zawi said...

Akmal, Sorry for missing your comment too. Something is wrong here with me.
I will give any idea to write a book. Wrriting one is difficult and selling it will even be more dfficult. Painting is easier (to me at least)and it seems I can even sell them before I have painted them. This is too good to be true and I hope it will last as long as I can paint.
Now I will have all the more reason to keep fit and live as long as I can. Yes, I can paint for my friends and earn some money while doing it.
Why don't you give it a try? I know you are talented too.

Zendra-Maria said...

Pak Zawi, don't know about "gori" but heli looks nice here:

svllee said...

Congrats..now get to work!! :-)

Pak Zawi said...

Zendra,
Now you have learnt a new Kelantanese word 'gori' meaning making the first sale of the day. Usually any traders will not mind selling at cost or even at a small lost to ensure that the first customer who walks in do not walk out without making a purchase. The Chinese businessman believes this too. They will go to great length to secure a deal from the first customer believing that the first sale of the day to the first customer will bring tremendous luck to the day's business.

Pak Zawi said...

svllee,
Thank you boss...I am working 24/7 now :). Before going to sleep I was always thinking of what to paint next and how to work on that painting that I hadn't complete to make it look better. Even during my sleep I dreamt that I was painting, anyway that was what my wife said of me talking in my sleep with gestures and all (slightly made up here).

kbguy said...

Pak, since you always have to think about your painting subject b4 u sleep..., i would like to give an opinion.
Howabout..., a mek kelantan wearing sarong in wet taking a bath by the well ?

Pak Zawi said...

KBguy,
You are right. Where there is a will, there is a way. Sometimes necessity helps. I need to do sometime to keep myself busy and since this one is also giving me an income, it is all the more worthwhile.

Pak Zawi said...

Lim,
Kalu lukis you nak beli ko?

anasalwa said...

Congratulations Pak Zawi, what a wonderful to news to hear on this blessed month. You did it.

Pak Zawi said...

ana,
Thank you. Time seems to fly nowadays. Don't feel the hunger of fasting when I am painting. Can you imagine that?

H J Angus said...

zawi
wow - looks like you are getting your second life as a famous painter.
Great news for you - my only advice to you is not to rush your work and sacrifice on quality.
Let people wait untill you are satisfied with the painting.
Having said that, I too would like a painting from you.
I like a sunrise scene of the KB or Kelantan waterfront. Email me at haroldangus@yahoo.com to discuss your price.
Maybe you also contact your guru in Majidee to see if they accept an older student - my present house is within a 2km radius of Majidee.

Pak Zawi said...

HJ Angus,
A second life yes but not famous hahahaha.
I really appreciate your advice to me not to rush on any job. You are right, I don't have to since i have no dateline to finish and I don't have to live on the sale of my paintings. My friends will have to wait for the painting to finish. An artist work will never be done until we apply the final varnish.
Your request for the sunrise scene is noted and I will put you on the list.
I will be sending you the email as requested and in it will be my Guru's phone number which I must sort of look up abit.
Thank you again for the advice and the support. Remember I owe you this blog, otherwise the blog will remain with just one post.

Hello Zawi, congratulatins! Outstanding. You've made it, ha ha.
Won't be long boleh retire Hawaii, continue painting there, ha ha.
Happy painting, Lee.

Pak Zawi said...

Lee,
Thank you. Retire in Hawaii and paint there? When my paintings can sell at a premium I might do that hahahaha.
Hawai for a holiday maybe, but not to stay and paint. Too expensive. People go to Ubud Bali to paint.
Take care my friend.

Congratulations, Abang Zawi! You are going to be more famous than you already are! One day I will see your painting hanging in someone's home, and I will recognise it as yours!

Pak Zawi said...

Ee Lynn,
Thank you.
Am I already famous? I doubt it. I am just another blogger like you. Well if you go to those people's places who ordered my paintings you will see them la but. You will of course be able to identify my paintings, they are the ugliest looking hung in the nook corner of a room hehehehe.
Would you like to place an order? Send me a picture of your favourite dog and I will paint her for you.

Pak Zawi said...

resident.wangsamaju,
I guess after this I will be an artist first and a writer second. at the moment being an artist is more rewarding and gives me more satisfaction. Why not give yourself a try?

Capt's Longhouse said...

Pak Zawi,

,,,tell you a secret that you might consider...paint the backdrop first and finish off the main subject, in that order it will stand out better ??..it will provide almost a 3D effect and life/realistic final product.
,,,touch up will be easier that way-lah. In fact, very little would be required if that process been followed-lah.
,,,its been my way !! for past 50 odd years or so !! haha... but you can have it any other ways too.

Tok Uban

Pak Zawi said...

Captain,
Thanks for the visit and the advice. Been doing it eversice I read about it in the internet. I think it is the right technique. So you have been painting for the past 50 yrs? You must be a master painter now. Anyway I can 'berguru' with you? Cold do with some professional guidance. I must follow the right technique.
I wanted to enroll in the art class at Gelanggang Seni but most if not all of the students are young kid doing water colours, I felt out of place. Immediately after puasa I will be going there as there is another painter doing some work at a shop there.
Glad to have known you.

Capt's Longhouse said...

just enjoy painting !....with all your heart o.k.
,,,also touch your subject with your hands, feel it, be in love with the subject o.k.,,,but jangan dgn bini orang haha !! bergurau saja pak ya !!

Pak Zawi said...

Captai,
I am definitely enjoying myself painting. The joy doubles when people ask to buy my paintings. So far I have only delivered just one painting to Zendra. I will have to paint another 20 paintings to fulfill all the requests.
I must paint a beautiful dame then I can talk to it and caress it better hahahaha.

Capt's Longhouse said...

hold on Pak Zawi !!!...you got caught here with way too many/much orders....its suppose to be taken with a pinch of salt that order of 10 plus the rest yaa !!!!you are just kidding yrself to paint that numbers...pleasure to pressure Yeop Oii !!
take it easy buddy...you know i know the quality/standard of one's painting...lets not make a joke of it yaa.
o.k. have your fun painting, enjoy doing so BUT BUT BUT ??? haha who's getting the last laugh buddy ?. make sure its you.

Pak Zawi said...

Captain,
Of course I will be having the last laugh. I am working hard to complete the 10 PREPAID orders! InsyaAllah I will have them done before the years end. Then the individual orders will be made ready and of course the family members will be the last to get them. My son prefers the rejects so he will get them early. He seems to love the one I consider a failure. He would very much wanted to have my first painting but Zendra will not part with it despite my attempt to replace her heliconia with a newer and better work. My children may have to spend a small fortune to get it back into the family possession. Let them do it, I guess I won't be around by then.
Rest assured I am enjoying the job and whatever I am being rewarded for it. I am doing it at my own pace. My friends wont mind waiting. My friend from JB HJ Angus prefers to have his much later so that the strokes will be more masterly by then hahahaha.
Making my friends happy will of course make me most happy.

Zendra-Maria said...

Salam Pak Zawi, no wonder I had a couple of tersedak episodes, I see my name being mentioned here.

Anyway, the reason for my visit in this month of kareem is to appeal to your kindness for help in a humanitarian cause. Do drop by my blog to find out what and how :)

Thank you very much, Pak Zawi.

Capt's Longhouse said...

Zendra,

Told Pak Zawi itu buruk siku if nak balik painting dari you hahaha !!..$1M ..o.k kot ya ??. i act as yr dealer hehehe.

Pak Zawi,,,carry on painting, back to the drawing board hahaha..no resting resting...orders menunggu tu !!..you are o.k. with your results..in time it will be even better BUT you will develop your own style..keep it !! its YOURs only-lah.

you're good - really.for somebody without much experience in oil and yet,you were able to come out with something which pocesses a style there - your own style to be correct.just maintain that style of colour, tone and brush stroke and you are on your way - infact, you're "cruising" now.i dabbble in art too - many years back and im not sure when the "spark" will hits me again,hehehe...

Hi Pak Zawi,

Wah, lumayan ar your business. Congratulations! Glad to hear all is well on your end. Better get that portrait of Balkis up soon...

Share with us, ok?

Pak Zawi said...

Zendra,
left a message at your site. May do tag if time permits.

Pak Zawi said...

Captain,
It was supposed to be fair exchange hehehehe. now it will have to be a buyback at a slightly inflated price?
Yes I am painting 24/7, thinking what to paint next and dreaming of painting new work hahahaha.
It will be done the only way I know and capable. So don't worry about losing my style, there is no other style.

Pak Zawi said...

Ah Ngao,
It is surely nice to hear such kind words from another artist. I am nowhere near you as you have so much experience. Mine is barely a month into it so i cant be saying much about arts. Just paint however my heart tells me to do.
What more spark do u need? Just get you materials and start painting again!

Pak Zawi said...

Daph,
Lumayan order but I am selling my paintings at rock bottom prices to make affordable to my friends. My motto is: Pay whatever you can afford. The more the better hahahaha.
I will be sharing the paintings at pakzawi.blogspot.com. just click on the picture of the Yellow Catleya above and you will get there.

Capt's Longhouse said...

Pak Zawi,

Something worth learning in Kelantan to further improve your style is how they do batik paintings of flowers !..pick the technic and combine it with yours, you will come up with some interesting result that is special only by you haha ! that would put you at a different level compared to others yoo..extra special-lah.
pls give it a try ??
...just a suggestion/advise from an oldman Tok Uban..hehe strategic reason i.e. surprise element in contrary to normal and popular patterns Yeop !! go the extra mile, they all add up in the end !!.
,,,re-focus provides a fresh outlook with better options at times too ??.

Pak Zawi said...

Captain,
Another great advice from you. Thanks. I have been thinking of joining an art class or get a proper tuition from a master. Unfortunately haven't found one that is convenient to me. There is a batik painter who operates from Kampung Kraftangan in Kota Bharu next to the shop of a painter who delves in both water color and oil for a living. I guess that is the best place for me to brush up on my inadequate knowledge to prepare myself for a career in oil painting.
Since my love is to paint flowers and other still life, I guess using the batik technique should be the next progression. Yes Captain, I will just take on the the advice and proceed to learning the trade from the masters themselves immediately after Raya. Can't be plodding on the way I am doing now without any form of guidance. Thank you again.
